News - Land RoverJLR Special Ops tech centre detailedJaguar Land Rover has announced the location of it Special Operations tech centre15 Aug 2014 JAGUAR Land Rover has chosen a location in the British car-maker’s heartland of Coventry, England for its Special Operations Technical Centre which will produce extraordinary vehicles such as the F-Type Project 7 and offer a VIP customer-commissioning suite. The Special Operations division, which was confirmed in June this year, produces bespoke, high-performance and limited edition vehicles, and the technical centre will be a development and production facility, while also provide a unique customer service experience. The location of the centre in Prologis Park in Ryton, Coventry, has heritage for both brands, with Coventry being Jaguar’s spiritual home, while JLR’s headquarters is five kilometres away in Whitely with testing facilities also in Gaydon. The Brown’s Lane Jaguar plant is nearby, too, and it is here one of Special Operations’ creations, the Lightweight E-type, will be hand built. JLR is calling its new technical facility in Ryton the company’s global centre of excellence and is investing $A36 million to install equipment. A Special Operations team of 150 specialists will be based there creating the brand’s ‘halo’ vehicles. The technical centre, which will start operating later this year, will also offer owners of its high-performance and limited edition vehicles an equally bespoke customer experience, with what the company calls a VIP customer-commissioning suite for tailor-made servicing and vehicle personalisation. The facility will also feature formula one inspired flexible workshops and a specialist paint studio. Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations managing director John Edwards said the technical centre will allow the company to fulfill its ambitious dreams. “We are excited by the capability and potential that this new facility will give us,” Mr Edwards said. “We will be creating truly iconic vehicles that reinforce the global reputation of both Jaguar and Land Rover brands as we expand our product portfolio and fulfill our ambitious plans.” The Range Rover Sport SVR, Jaguar Project 7 and Jaguar Lightweight E-type are the first cars to come out of Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations and all three are appearing at this weekend’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in the United States. The first car to roll out of the new technical centre in Ryton, however, will be the F-type Project 7 – the fastest Jaguar ever made. Read more |
