Hyundai push to mandate ESC

Bargain: Sub-$15,000 Getz scores ESC for free in June.

Hyundai offers standard stability control on three models for a limited time

22 Apr 2008

HYUNDAI is campaigning for electronic stability control to be fitted on all new cars sold in Australia and, to kick-start the campaign, is fitting the potentially life-saving technology on three of its models as standard for a limited time – including the Getz 1.6 SX at $14,990 driveaway.

Until June 30, ESC is also being fitted free on the $19,990 Elantra 2.0 SX and the $24,990 Tucson City 2.0 SX, while the company’s cheapest car, the Getz 1.4 S at $13,990 driveaway, gets free ABS.

“Our vision is to see ESP mandated across all new vehicles in Australia,” said Hyundai Australia sales and marketing director Kevin McCann.

“Local research from Monash University in Victoria confirms that ESP stability control can reduce the risk of a single vehicle accident where the driver is injured by as much as 68 per cent.

“Hyundai believes the fitment of ESP will be mandated on all new cars sold in Australia, and we are therefore including this life-saving technology as a feature of our Mid-Year Sale campaign.

“Our own research indicates that as soon as people understand what ESP Stability Control does, they value it even more highly than ABS.

“Hyundai’s philosophy is to bring the latest automotive technology within the reach of all customers, and our move responds to increased levels of interest and enquiry for this potentially life-saving technology”.
