CES: Hyundai’s future mobility solutions on show

HYUNDAI will showcase its future technologies at next year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES), bringing autonomous driving, interconnected vehicle and lifestyle solutions, and wearable exoskeletons to the Las Vegas show floor.

Headlining its presence will be several Ioniq hatchbacks kitted out with self-driving technologies to ferry participants in autonomous tests around the show.

Hybrid and electric versions of the Ioniq will also be on hand for people to have a poke around, with Hyundai’s latest green car expected to arrive Down Under sometime in 2017.

A new Mobility Vision concept – developed in conjunction with IT firm Cisco – will also be revealed at the show, linking home, workplace and vehicle spaces with new interconnected technologies.

According to Hyundai, it “will be central to making tomorrow’s lifestyles even more convenient” and it will “blur the lines between mobility, and living and working spaces”.

Although no further details were revealed, the technology will utilise wireless communications to seamlessly transmit data from home to vehicle to office, and could include pushing schedules and appointment information to vehicle satellite navigation, accessing digital shopping lists and notes written from home while on the move, and monitoring the status of the vehicle from the workplace or home.

Finally, Hyundai will also showcase new mobility technologies aimed at improving health and wellbeing.

With its Healthcare Cockpit, Hyundai says it will “connect car and driver to boost productivity or relaxation when travelling”, which likely means the system will monitoring driver fatigue and concentration levels and give appropriate feedback.

Hyundai’s range of advanced exoskeletons (think Matt Damon in 2014’s Elysium) will also be on display, helping customers with disabilities and impairments, as well as providing physical support for workers conducting heavy lifting and repetitive tasks.

Hyundai will kick-off its CES exhibition from January 4 and will hold a press conference on the same day.
