Holden turns to fans for special edition name

What’s that: Holden’s first special edition Commodore for 2015, based on the SV6, will be called … something.

Now social media gets a say in new Holden Commodore SV6 special edition badge

7 Jan 2015

A HOLDEN fan will get to name a new special-edition VF Commodore SV6 due in showrooms in about three or four months.

Australia’s second-biggest car company has elected to seek naming suggestions from punters on its Facebook page in a Name That Commodore competition running from January 8 to 14.

The winner – selected by Holden’s marketing and design teams – will not only earn pub bragging rights but also win a week in a VF Commodore and a design studio sketch of the VF Commodore by Holden design director Richard Ferlazzo.

As well, their name will be emblazoned on marketing materials for the new special edition which will be available in both sedan and ute forms.

Holden marketing director Bill Mott said the competition was another great example of Holden engaging with customers and fans.

“The competition is a great opportunity for Holden fans to get creative and contribute something to the history of one of Australia’s most iconic cars,” he said.

“We already have a strong relationship with Australian drivers and this is just another example of how we are continuing to listen to our customers.”

In the past, Holden has used names such as Equipe, Storm, International and even Craig Lowndes on special value-added editions that it has launched at regular intervals to prompt sales of its locally built large car.

Entrants will have few details on which to base their vehicle name suggestions, as the exact specification of the special edition will not be announced ahead of the competition.

But at least they will be able to use social media for a bit of positive name calling for a change.
