News - HoldenHolden extends Home Ground AdvantageThird round of Holden's sporting club grant scheme opens to applicants12 Nov 2015 GM HOLDEN is continuing to support Australian grassroots sporting clubs with its Home Ground Advantage program, and has opened bidding for the third round of applications since its creation a year ago. The program invites smaller sporting clubs to apply for up to $100,000 of a $250,000 pool, which is allocated twice a year by the car-maker to assist clubs and associations. Maryborough Bears Australian Football Club won the first major grant in 2014, the second-round winner will be announced on November 17 this year, and clubs can now apply for the third round. Holden's Home Ground Advantage grant program has committed to donating $500,000 per year for ten years to sports clubs and associations needing assistance with projects or equipment. GM Holden director of communications Sean Poppitt said grassroots sporting clubs played a vital role in local communities but often struggled to reach their full potential due to lack of funding. “We know that community clubs work tirelessly to fund raise but it takes a lot of sausage sizzles, cake stalls and trivia nights to raise the sort of money most need to operate successfully,” he said. Mr Poppitt's sentiments were repeated by sports presenter and Holden Home Ground Advantage ambassador Mel McLaughlin, who encouraged more clubs to apply for the funding. “Whether you need funds for a clubhouse makeover, a resurfaced playing field or simply some new uniforms, Holden Home Ground Advantage supports projects both big and small,” she said.
