Ford to put the hammer down on FPV GT F

IF YOU miss out on a new limited-edition Ford Performance Vehicles 351 GT F at your local FPV dealer, there's hope: Ford is preparing to auction three of the collectable supercharged V8 beasts for charity.

However, you might need deep pockets as the price will almost certainly exceed the $77,990 plus on-road costs) that Ford is asking for the vehicle in Australian showrooms.

Only a handful of the 500 cars listed for sale in Australia are left, with the vast majority already spoken for by FPV fans keen to get a slice of GT Falcon history.

The latest model is not only the most powerful GT from the local Blue Oval's engineers – officially producing 351kW but generating up to 420kW when conditions are right – but also the last, making it a highly collectible car.

The plan to auction three of the GT Fs was announced by Ford Australia president Bob Graziano at today's launch of the new model.

He said GT Fs with the build numbers 1, 14 and 500 would be auctioned, but he declined to say when, as details of the auction and recipient of the proceeds are to be announced at a later date.

The numbers 1 and 500 are significant, being the first and last of the final Falcon GT batch. Number 14 came up because that is a press test car, and will be offered for sale once launch proceedings are completed.

Such charity auctions are a regular feature of highly desirable cars in the US, with vehicles such as the first new Ford Mustang going under the hammer for a good cause.

FPV GT F buyers have been able to request specific numbers out of the build of 500, but the coveted 351 build number was drawn out of a hat, going to a lucky Gold Coast FPV fan.
