Continental democratises high performance tyres

New tyre offers improved performance, more engaging and safer driving, says Continental

3 Aug 2023

GERMAN tyre (and parts) manufacturer Continental Tyres has introduced a new UltraContact UC7 product locally to cater for a wide range of performance car driving applications.

The newcomer compliments its SportContact7 tyre to deliver “outstanding wet performance, noise reduction and long-lasting tread life.”

The UC7 arrives hot on the heels of the SportContact 7 and according to Continental, brings an “exceptionally” balanced driving experience, specifically developed to cater for a wider passenger vehicle audience.

According to Continental, the tyre features its latest generation safety technology and benefits from input by world-class premium tyre engineers.

“The UC7 excels in delivering comfort, fuel efficiency and safety through superior braking and handling capabilities in both wet and dry road conditions,” said Continental Tyres regional head, Mitchell Golledge.

Like most tyre manufacturers Conti places an “unwavering focus” on road safety and in the development phase of the UC7 completed rigorous rounds of testing, thoroughly evaluating every aspect of the product’s performance.

Through this process, Continental says it has been able to integrate cutting-edge technology to redefine a vehicle’s drive feel. This in turn instils drivers with confidence on their daily journeys and ensures safe and effortless arrivals at their destinations.

The tyre itself features significant advancements in technology to attain advantages to service life, in the wet and to cut noise.

Mr Golledge says it stands testament to the substantial investment the organisation makes in tyre development.

“To continue evolving to consumer needs, the Continental UltraContact UC7 represents a design that does not compromise on any aspect of safety, comfort, handling or wear,” he said.

“This range empowers drivers with confidence to conquer the road, offering shorter braking distances, outstanding wet performance and reliable grip on slippery roads.”

The tyre utilises what Conti refers to as the Diamond Compound formula, innovative Noise Breaker 3.0 design and Aqua Channel Advanced surface sipes (small tread grooves). The Diamond Compound formula Diamond Compound with optimized polymer network (body and tread of tyre) ensures wear resistance, leading to long-lasting tyre life.

Aqua Channel Advanced surface sipes aid in water evacuation from in front of the tread contact patch reducing the risk of aquaplaning. As water is pushed into the Aqua Channel Advanced surface sipes, water drainage from the tread block into the longitudinal groove speeds up. This leads to improved surface contact between the rubber and road, resulting in improved grip even on wet slippery roads.

The Noise Breaker 3.0 design efficiently reduces road noise by absorbing sound waves within the tyre’s grooves. As sound waves travel through the grooves, the technology interrupts the waves by disrupting the homogeneity of the grooves. The sound waves are broken up and dissipated into smaller frequencies, preventing noise from building up and traveling into the cabin of the car.

The new tyre is available in a range of widths, profilers and diameters ranging from 16- to 19 inches in diametre to suit a large number of popular models sold here.

Continental has simultaneously launched the ComfortContact CC7 in Australia that is engineered with the same advanced technology for compact and mid-sized vehicles, with sizes available from 14- to 17 inches in diameter.
