New models - Volvo - S60Volvo prices all-new S60, V60 to competeKey rivals significantly undercut as Volvo goes all in on S60 sedan, V60 wagon31 May 2019 VOLVO Car Australia has released sharp pricing and specification for its new-generation S60 sedan and V60 wagon, which the Swedish brand says will “stand out from the crowd” in the luxury mid-size-car segment when they enter showrooms in early August.
Both body styles are available with three uniquely styled grades (entry-level Momentum, mid-range Inscription and flagship R-Design), with a T5 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine offered on all, while the range-topper can also be had with a T8 plug-in hybrid powertrain.
S60 and V60’s starting prices undercut that of equivalent Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 variants by about $15,000, with the T5 Momentum sedan kicking off the line-up from $54,990 plus on-road costs.
The T5 Inscription costs $6000 more and the T5 R-Design another $4000, while the T8 R-Design is further upstream at $85,990. Wagon versions of these four variants command a $2000 premium.
The T5 engine produces 187kW of power and 350Nm of torque in the Momentum and Inscription but ups the ante by 5kW/50Nm in the R-Design.
However, the T8 has even more muscle thanks to its addition of a supercharger and an electric motor, which help to boost its outputs to a substantial 311kW/680Nm.
A less potent tune of the T8 is available overseas, but Volvo Car Australia instead opted for the punchier Polestar Engineered upgrade that reduces the zero-to-100km/h sprint time to a brisk 4.7 seconds.
Both powertrains are mated to an automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system as standard.
Standard equipment in the Momentum includes Dynamic Chassis, black diamond-cut 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, power-folding side mirrors with auto-dimming, and a hands-free power-operated boot (S60) or tailgate (V60).
Inside, an 9.0-inch touchscreen Sensus infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, DAB+ digital radio, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a power-folding rear bench (S60), leather upholstery and Iron Ore trim feature.
Advanced driver-assist systems extend to front and rear autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep and steering assist, blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, a reversing camera, and front and rear parking sensors.
The Inscription adds black diamond-cut 19-inch alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights, a head-up display, four-zone climate control, heated front seats with power-adjustable cushion extensions, ambient lighting, Driftwood trim, surround-view cameras and park assist.
The R-Design further includes Four-C Chassis, matte-black diamond-cut 19-inch alloy wheels, paddle-shifters, sports seats, a 230V power outlet and Metal Mesh trim.
“Sedan and wagon vehicles have always been popular with Australian car buyers, and with the addition of our S60 and V60 vehicles we intend to reinvigorate those body styles,” said Volvo Car Australia managing director Nick Connor.
“We are confident that with their very distinctive look and competitive pricing, the S60 and the V60 will make an immediate impact with buyers who are looking for something very different from the staid models in the luxury segment today.
“S60 and V60 are the perfect cars for the Australian lifestyle and both perfectly complement our already award-winning SUV line-up.
“With the addition of these two vehicles, our entire model line is now new and fresh. We have saved the best for last.”
As reported, S60 and V60 now ride on Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), joining the S90 and V90 large cars and the XC40, XC60 and XC90 SUVs.
