New models - ToyotaToyota GR range refreshedPepped-up GR range gets a refresh with more tech, performance parts, new colour option6 Oct 2023 TOYOTA Australia has upped the ante across its GR range, centred around improvements to the GR86 models while the Corolla and Supra also score updated colours.
Arguably the most significant update is the addition of autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane departure alert (LDA) and automatic high beam for manual models, following Subaru’s decision to add the safety features to the twin-under-the-skin BRZ.
There is also added performance to be had, with the addition of an optional dynamic performance pack that beefs up braking and stiffens the GR86 up in corners.
The optional extra upgrades the two-piston front callipers and single-piston rear callipers to Brembo units with four-piston callipers up front and two piston callipers at the rear, suitably finished in red.
A set of ZF Sachs sports shock absorbers is also included, which Toyota says offers a smoother rebound curve and increased stiffness, helping keep the GR86 flat when cornering – an upgrade that will likely go a long way despite this generation already being a claimed 50 per cent stiffer than the old one.
“These latest upgrades to our popular and affordable GR86 sports car bring real improvements to both safety and performance – two crucial aspects for buyers,” said Toyota Australia vice president sales, marketing and franchise operations, Sean Hanley.
“Technologies such as autonomous emergency braking aim to provide buyers with increased peace of mind, while the addition of the new Performance Pack enhances the already dynamic abilities of the GR86 even further.”
The GR Supra will now be available in Plasma Orange, replacing the existing Silverstone Yellow colour, similar based on photos to the first generation 86 bronze.
New for the GR Corolla is Eclectic Blue, also a somewhat familiar Toyota colour, which includes blue stitching for interior trim pieces inside the cabin.
No price increase has been mentioned across models, nor has the GR86 performance pack price been confirmed, although GoAuto has reached out to Toyota Australia for clarification.
