The Czech manufacturer has announced that the previously optional Black Pack will now come as standard, which includes black 18-inch wheels and black body trims. Two packs will be available for the RS range, the first of which is the $2300 Tech Pack which includes a 9.2-inch touchscreen sat-nav system, adaptive LED headlights, automatic parking assist, adaptive chassis control, keyless entry with smart start, 10-speaker Canton sound system, automatic headlights and wipers, and driving mode selection. The $2800 Luxury pack adds leather/Alcantara upholstery with red stitching, electric adjustment for front seats with driver seat memory function, lane assist, blind spot detection, heated seats front and rear, two extra airbags, passenger protect assist and auto folding door mirrors. Two 2.0-litre powertrain options are available – a 169kW/350Nm turbo-petrol unit available with a six-speed manual or dual-clutch automatic transmission, or a 135kW/380Nm turbo-diesel mated exclusively to the DSG dual-clutch. A hotter 180kW/370Nm RS245 variant is due to join the range in both sedan and wagon guise in November, with Skoda Australia general manager communications Paul Pottinger calling it “the most exciting” model that the brand has brought Down Under since its launch ten years ago. Available in both manual and DSG guise, the RS245 also packs a mechanical limited-slip differential for extra performance credentials. Mr Pottinger expects the majority of customers to opt for the wagon employing the dual-clutch auto. Pricing has yet to be released for the RS245, but the limited-edition RS230 launched last year suggests the new range-topper will carry around a $4000 premium over the RS169 TSI models. The rest of the updated Octavia range arrived in Australia in April this year.
