Ram 1500 DT Big Horn new range starter

RAM Trucks Australia has this week announced the arrival of the 1500 DT Big Horn variant in Australia. Priced from $119,950 plus on-road costs with the short tub (1700mm) and $120,950 +ORC with the long tub (1930mm), the duo is available to order now.

The news comes at the same time Ram Trucks Australia ups the pricing on a number of models in the range, including its larger Heavy Duty line-up, by $3000, and the flagship 1500 DT-series TRX by a whopping $15,000.

Positioned as the new entry point to the 1500 DT range, the Big Horn features the same mild-hybrid 5.7-litre HEMI V8 petrol engine delivering 291kW and 556Nm through an eight-speed auto.

Further reducing fuel consumption is the inclusion as standard of an idle-stop system and cylinder deactivation technology, with the ADR Combined cycle fuel consumption figure listed at 12.2 litres per 100km.

Like most 1500 DT variants, the Big Horn offers up to 4500kg of braked towing capacity and a payload figure of 900kg. The tray bed features multiple tie-down and step-up points for convenient loading and is fitted as standard with a factory bedliner.

Other standard equipment items include cloth upholstery, heated front seats, 60:40 stadium-styling folding rear seats, 18-inch alloy wheels, an electric sliding rear cab window, cruise control, a leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel, self-dimming rear-view mirror, and an 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment array with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Safety technologies include a complement of airbags, trailer sway control, hill start and descent control, and front and rear parking sensors.

As part of the Ateco Group, Ram Trucks Australia is the only Ram-authorised manufacturer of right-hand drive trucks. All vehicles are built to international specifications and uniquely coded for the Australian and New Zealand markets.

The Ram range begins with the DS-series 1500 Express Crew and Warlock II variants, followed by the new DT-series 1500 Big Horn, Laramie, Laramie Sport and Limited, as well as the Heavy Duty (HD) 2500 Laramie and 3500 Laramie.

The range is rounded out by the flagship sports model, the 1500 TRX.

Ram Trucks Australia national manager, Jeff Barber, says year-to-date sales of the range is up 51.2 per cent to the end of July, and says the DS-series is now on run-out from $98,950 drive-away.

“We’ve sold nearly 25,000 Rams since 2015 – across metropolitan, regional and rural areas – with many of them being used as fit-for-purpose vehicles for towing farm machinery, horse floats, caravans, boats and more,” he said.

“The Ram 1500 Big Horn, with its class-leading 4.5-tonnes max braked towing, legendary 5.7-litre V8 HEMI and optional longer tub allows us to broaden our product offering.

“It’s a true workhorse, perfect for the job site during the week or dirt-biking on the weekend thanks to its ability to transport two bikes or a 6ft ladder without dropping the tailgate.”
