New for ’22 Patrol revealed

Nissan Patrol sports new frontal design, now priced from $82,160

7 Feb 2022

NISSAN Australia, which achieved the highest number of Patrol Wagon sales (since 2008) last year, has rolled out a mildly refreshed version of its Upper Large SUV for the 2022 model year.

Now priced from $82,160 (plus on-road costs) – an increase of $1000 – the MY22 Patrol ushers in new design changes, but they’re limited to the off-roader’s grille, plus a new frontal emblem and fender vents. The changes follow the model’s last minor revision in 2020, which introduced a refreshed exterior, suspension, an updated colour palette and additional safety technologies.

“The Nissan Patrol has always been a legendary vehicle in Australia, and that legendary status only increased in 2021,” Nissan Australia managing director Adam Paterson said.

“It’s a testament to the Y62 Patrol that its strongest year on record in Australia coincided with the model’s 70th anniversary. The MY22 Patrol furthers the (model’s) story in Australia, as the fan base for this legendary vehicle continues to grow,” he added.

While the changes are modest, Mr Paterson says they add another chapter to the Patrol story, which spans 70 years and six generations; Nissan has sold more than two million units of the model.

The Patrol remains mechanically unaltered. It’s powered by Nissan’s 298kW/560Nm 5.6-litre quad-cam V8, which is paired exclusively to a seven-speed automatic transmission (with manual mode and adaptive shift control). Its braked towing capacity (3 500 kg) is unchanged.

Over and above an Intelligent 4x4 system with electronic mode selection and a rear Helical limited-slip differential, the Patrol comes with an off-road monitor, hill-descent control and hill-start assist.

The entry-grade Patrol Ti ($82,160) is fitted with the following standard features: 18-inch alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, heated power wing mirrors, an 8.0-inch infotainment array with iPod and Bluetooth connectivity, native satellite navigation, an eight-seat capacity, tri-zone climate control, electric front-seat adjustment, leather-accented upholstery, auto headlights, LED front fog lights, keyless entry, and Nissan’s Hydraulic Body Motion Control (HBMC) suspension.

Top-spec Patrol Ti-L ($95,115) adds memory function for the driver’s seat, console cool box, intelligent rear-view mirror, puddle lights, powered tailgate, roof rails, sunroof, dual 8.0-inch rear entertainment screens, heated and ventilated front seats, electric steering-column adjustment, seven-seat capacity, as well as a 13-speaker BOSE premium audio system.

Both Patrol derivatives incorporate a long list of safety equipment, including a 360-degree camera view, forward collision- and emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, intelligent cruise control, lane keeping and -departure, blind spot warning and intelligent blind spot intervention.

The model garnered 115 sales in Australia last month; which represented a 13.6 per cent share of the SUV Upper Large (under $100k) segment. Its rival Toyota LandCruiser accounted for the remaining 86.4 per cent of category sales with unit sales of 730. Both entrants’ monthly sales fell over 50 per cent (down -52.3% and -51.3% respectively) compared to the same month last year.
