New models - Mitsubishi - Outlander - RX five-door wagonOutlander gets specialMitsubishi’s limited-edition Outlander gets bodykit, big wheels and bigger stereo19 Feb 2009 MITSUBISHI has wound up the volume of its second-generation Outlander to hitherto unseen levels with the limited-edition RX. Powered by an unchanged 3.0-litre MIVEC V6 mated exclusively to a six-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift mode, the Outlander RS is limited to a release of just 300 examples throughout Mitsubishi’s 200-plus national dealer network. Every one of them will get noticed, however, via 18-inch RAYS alloy wheels, aggressive new-look front and rear bumpers, unique side skirts, chromed doorhandles and mirrors, and high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights with washers. Inside, the five-seat-only RX offers chromed door-pulls within specific front and rear door trims, revised seat trims, Smart key entry, Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity and a premium Rockford Fosgate sound system comprising the Mitsubishi Multi-Communications System with satellite-navigation. A reversing camera and twin front, front-side and side curtain airbags are also standard in the RX, which like all Outlanders features Mitsubishi’s Active Stability Control with Traction Control (ASTC) and selectable All Wheel Control (AWC) systems, the latter allowing on-the-fly selection between 2WD and AWD modes. Available now in just two exterior paint colours (Black Mica and Cool Silver), the Outlander RX is priced at $41,990 - $2500 more than the entry-level V6 Outlander VR ($39,490).
