This new entry pricing of the MG4 Excite 51 will see it vie closely with the newly announced BYD Dolphin for the title of Australia’s cheapest electric vehicle when BYD reveals pricing later this week.
Previously, the MG4 entry point was $44,990 + ORC for the Excite 64 with larger battery pack and more driving range.
Backed by a five-star ANCAP safety rating and a seven-year warranty, the MG4 range now includes 51kWh (with 350km WLTP range), 64kWh (450km) and 77kWh (530km) battery pack options, topping out with the high-grade Essence 77 at $55,990 +ORC.
“Australians are doing it tough amid cost-of-living pressures, I know they are feeling those rising pressures at supermarkets, when they’re buying fuel, when they’re paying their energy bills,” said MG Australia CEO, Peter Ciao.
“Like I did when I launched the ZS EV, and as MG has done with our other models, we are creating affordable and accessible cars and the MG4 is helping Aussies get into an electric vehicle sooner than later.
“There is no doubt that the cost of living is the number one issue right now for Australians and we’re trying our best to help by making EV affordable with the release of MG4 at under $38,990 plus on-road costs.”
The rear-wheel drive MG4 Excite 51 joins the remainder of the line-up as a well-equipped entry point with a generous standard feature list.
It offers 125kW of power for a 0-100km/h sprint time of 7.7 seconds, one-pedal drive mode, AC charging at up to 6.6kW and DC charging at up to 88kW. It rides on MacPherson sturt front and multi-link rear suspension and features four-wheel disc brakes.
Standard inclusions see the new MG4 entry variant arrive with 17-inch alloy wheels, a leather wrapped steering wheel, LED lights all-round, 7.0-inch instrument screen, 10.25-inch infotainment screen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, climate control, keyless entry and start, V2L charging, and 363 litres of cargo space in five-seat mode.
MG Pilot safety and driver assistance technologies also feature as standard, including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, traffic sign recognition, lane keep and lane departure systems, drive attention alert and high beam assist.
