New models - MGMG4 and ZS EV now less than $40kMG Motor slashes MG4 and ZS EV pricing, now available with sub-$40K drive-away pricing22 Mar 2024 MG MOTOR has dramatically reduced pricing across its MG4 and ZS EV range in Australia, now offering two sub-$40,000 EV options, taking the fight to BYD and GWM.
Reduced pricing for the range will be made effective for orders placed on or after March 22, with the base model MG4 Excite 51 reduced to $39,990 drive-away and ZS EV Excite to $39,990 drive-away.
The MG4 Excite 51 was previously $39,990 before on-road costs and the ZS EV was previously $41,990 before on-road costs, but the additional charges bumped the prices up by around $1000-$3000 depending on the state.
Both base models can now be driven off the lot for less than $40,000 with only the GWM Ora undercutting them at $38,000 drive-away, after a $4000 discount which ends this month.
As of April 1, the MG4 and ZS EV will be Australia’s cheapest EV models.
The top-spec MG4 Essence 77 model with an impressive 530km of driving range will now cost $52,990 drive-away, down from $55,990 before on-road costs, a saving of $3000 before factoring in the hefty on-road costs.
Pricing for the ZS EV Long Range has been reduced from $51,990 plus on-road costs to $49,990 drive-away, offering promising value for an EV that can travel 440km between charges.
MG will continue to offer its capped-price service program for MG4 and ZS models, locking in servicing costs for the first seven years of scheduled maintenance, which for EV models comes around every 40,000km or 24 months.
The announcement comes after the government’s proposed New Vehicle Efficiency Standard, which aims to steer buyers into more efficient low- and zero-emission vehicles, took the automotive industry by storm.
While many manufacturers scramble to assess model viability, MG has responded by making its zero-emission models more affordable and, in doing so, taking the fight to GWM and BYD for the title of Australia’s cheapest EV.
“We are serious about our commitment to support the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard and once again, MG is putting customers first by ensuring everyone can access a wide range of affordable zero emission vehicles thanks to reduced nationwide drive-away pricing on the entire MG4 range including XPOWER as well as the ZS EV,” said MG Motor Australia chief executive Peter Ciao.
“MG has been leading the charge with electric for everyone since the launch of the ZS EV and multi award-winning MG4, with reduced drive-away pricing Australia wide.”
MG Motor Australia says the decision to reduce its prices is to encourage people to buy an EV despite varying government incentives across states and rising cost of living pressures.
“In a market where customers are becoming increasingly aware of their finances, providing transparency on the final cost customers will pay for buying an EV and for servicing is very important, that’s why MG has made the move to offer both to customers with no hidden costs,” said Mr Ciao.
“Customers like choices. We want them to be empowered to have the freedom to drive a SUV or a hatch, which is why we are offering both the MG4 51kWh Excite and ZS EV Excite at under $40k drive-away.
“Whenever we are able to pass price reductions like this onto our customers, we will make sure we do,” he said.
