Limited to just 100 units locally, the MG3S is priced $1000 above the MG3 Core upon which it is based and adds a number of unique styling elements.
The design of the MG3S is enhanced with the addition of black side skirts, rear spoiler, limited-edition badging, weather shields and 15-inch black-painted wheels.
Two colour options are available for the MG3S: one combining red, white and black, and another mixing yellow and black.
The red model features a red grille and, inside, red piped floor mats and red interior vents, while the yellow variant scores a black grille and black floor mats.
Custom keyrings are also part of the S package.
Carryover specification includes an 8.0-inch colour touchscreen with Apple CarPlay compatibility, tartan interior trim, rearview camera, rear parking sensors, autonomous emergency braking, cruise control, anti-lock brakes and remote central locking.
The MG3S is powered by the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder petrol engine, tuned to produce 82kW of power at 6000rpm and 150Nm of torque at 4500rpm.
Mated to a four-speed automatic transmission and driving the front wheels exclusively, the MG3 sips an average 6.7 litres per 100km on the combined cycle while emitting 159 grams of CO2 per kilometre.
MG also matches Kia for an industry-leading seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty period, along with seven years of roadside assistance.
MG Motor Australia marketing director Danny Lenartic said the MG3S offers exciting styling at an affordable price point.
“We are excited to be revealing the limited-edition MG3S to our Australian customers, offering them styling to stand out from the crowd at an attainable price point,” he said.
“Designed with our local customers in mind, the MG3S will inject a fresh, new personality into our range that continues to represent our ethos of ‘fun motoring for life’.”
Through the first seven months of the year, MG has sold 2043 examples of the MG3, just outpacing the ZS small SUV (2036) as the brand’s most popular model.
The MG3 currently sits eighth in the light-car segment, behind the likes of the Hyundai Accent (7636), Mazda2 (5782) and Toyota Yaris (5574).
