New models - MG - HS - Essence AnfieldMG announces HS Essence Anfield editionAnfield special treatment extends to HS mid-size SUV, topping range at $40,680 d/a7 Jul 2020 MG MOTOR Australia has unveiled a second Anfield special-edition SUV, this time sitting atop the mid-sized HS range.
Priced from $40,680 driveaway, the HS Anfield – like the smaller ZS Anfield – is based on the top-spec Essence variant and adds a unique red leather interior paired with a metallic-black exterior paint scheme in honour of the brand’s ongoing partnership with the Liverpool Football Club.
Despite the $4000 premium over the regular Essence, the Anfield does not come with any extra standard equipment other than its red leather upholstery, meaning its spec sheet otherwise reads the same as the donor car.
This remains a comprehensive list including a panoramic sunroof, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED head- and tail-lights, electronic tailgate, 360-degree camera, sports seats, multifunction leather steering wheel (with paddle shifters), ‘partially virtual’ instrument panel, Super Sport drive mode, satellite navigation, dual-zone climate control, rain-sensing windscreen wipers and LED ambient lighting.
It also comes with a 10.1-inch infotainment screen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, Bluetooth audio, four USB ports (two front, two rear), keyless entry and push-button start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a cooled centre console storage compartment.
While the smaller ZS Anfield is limited to just 200 units, MG Motor Australia says the HS version will be a permanent member of the range for now.
As per all other HS variants, the Anfield uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine developing 125kW of power and 250Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels only via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Later this year, a more potent all-wheel-drive version of the HS will touch down, powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine churning out 170kW/370Nm.
Two plug-in hybrids and a battery-electric version have also been slated for local introduction.
MG has shifted 1124 examples of the HS through the first half of this year, with the new model playing its part in the fast-growing brand’s upward trajectory that has seen overall sales increase 54.4 per cent.
That said, the HS does still only account for a slim 1.6 per cent of the ever-popular and increasingly crowded sub-$60,000 mid-size SUV segment.
