Lexus increases seats and price of LX range

Prices up across Lexus LX range as two new seven-seat models join the range

16 Feb 2024

LEXUS Australia has expanded its flagship range of its Toyota LandCruiser-based LX models, with two new seven-seat Sports Luxury grades, also increasing prices by $5500 for all pre-existing models.

No reason was given for the price increase, but it comes as other manufacturers make similar pricing decisions, with Toyota increasing the price of most of its popular models in late 2023 – again hiking the LandCruiser 300 price by $3775 across the range just a fortnight ago.

Car prices in Australia, however, have increased across the board by an average of almost 20 per cent since 2020, attributed to rising material prices, labour costs, logistics and the obvious increase in technology and equipment.

The base model LX500d diesel model now starts at $157,061 and the LX600 petrol at $160,561, while the mid-range Sports Luxury jumps to $177,561, the F Sport to $183,561 and the Ultra Luxury range topper all the way up to $219,061.

New seven-seat Sports Luxury models start at $181,361 for the petrol and $176,661 for the diesel, ditching the rear compartment for a third row with automatic folding function, curtain airbags and additional USB-C ports.

The five-seat LX Sports Luxury models are priced at $177,561 for the petrol and $174,061 for the diesel, undercutting their seven-seat stablemates by $3800 and $2600 respectively.

Both diesel and petrol seven-seat Sports Luxury models lose the existing tonneau parcel shelf, but the diesel also loses its soft close doors and 30-litre auxiliary fuel tank.

The Sports Luxury grade is equipped with either a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V6 producing 305kW/650Nm or a 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 diesel producing 227kW/700Nm, while both models use a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Lexus Australia has confirmed the new seven-seat Sports Luxury models are already in showrooms around the country, offering additional family-focused options for the now 11-variant-strong LX range.

“The availability of the LX Sports Luxury grade now with seven seats shows our commitment to expand the Lexus line-up to meet the diverse needs of our customers,” said Lexus Australia chief executive John Pappas.

“The third row provides added flexibility for customers of our flagship luxury SUV.”

Additions to the luxury LX SUV range, and the blanket price increase, come as Lexus gears up to launch its seven-seat Prado-based GX 4x4 wagon by mid-2024.

The GX range will include GX550 Luxury and Sport Luxury models, as well as a more hardcore GX550 Overtrail off-road model, offering a more luxurious package than the LandCruiser Prado the range shares its underpinnings with.
