New models - Lamborghini - Gallardo - SpyderHottest Murcielago hits BrissieLambo debuts two new models in Brisbane: the Murcielago LP640 and Gallardo Spyder5 Feb 2007 By NEIL MCDONALD and TERRY MARTIN SUPERCARS are often the main attractions at motor shows, and this week’s Brisbane International Motor Show will host no fewer than two new members of the genre from Italian marque Lamborghini, with both the Murcielago LP640 and Gallardo Spyder making their Australian debut in Brissie. The House of the Raging Bull's awesome new Murcielago LP640 has remachined looks. A 640hp (471kW) 6.5 litre rear-mounted longitudinal V12 - which gives rise to the LP, or longitudinale posteriore, moniker - and a raft of other mechanical modifications including a reworked gearbox, suspension and brakes. Left: Gallardo Spyder. Numbers of significance include 471kW at 8000rpm, 660Nm at 6000rpm, 1750kg kerb weight, 0-100km/h in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 340km/h. Oh, and $659,000. Those with shallower pockets might turn from the Murcielago to the smaller and (ahem) $439,000 Gallardo Spyder. Like the Gallardo coupe, this convertible version relies on a 382kW 5.0-litre V10, but with shorter gear ratios it can accelerate from 0-100km/h in a slightly quicker 4.3 seconds. The open-top Gallardo also features recalibrated suspension, more direct and more precise steering and two pop-up rollover hoops.
