Hyundai updates i30 Sedan, adds hybrid option

Refreshed styling, hybrid powertrain option, additional connectivity for $3000 dearer i30 Sedan

26 Oct 2023

HYUNDAI has revealed details of its incoming 2024 i30 Sedan range, the revised line-up adding a petrol-electric driveline for the first time, in addition to refreshed styling and additional connectivity features.

Priced from $29,000 plus on-road costs, the Hyundai i30 Sedan range begins some $3000 more than before and is now offered with the choice of 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol, 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol and a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol-electric hybrid engines, the latter a first for the range.

All variants are now fitted standard with an automatic transmission. Full pricing details are available below.

Hyundai will offer the hybrid powertrain across all grades excluding N Line variants, the unit arriving standard with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, 32kW/170Nm electric motor and 1.32kWh battery to achieve an ADR Urban cycle fuel consumption figure of 2.8 litres per 100km.

A revised line-up sees the ‘i30’ variant replace the Active grade as the opener to the range, followed by Elite, Premium, N Line and N Line Premium grades.

Petrol-powered i30, Elite and Premium grades are available in conjunction with the 2.0-litre petrol engine and continuously variable transmission (CVT) while N Line and N Line Premium grades score the 1.6-litre turbocharged unit and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission combination.

In standard trim, the i30 Sedan now features LED headlights and DRLs, front and rear parking sensors, a more advanced AEB system and intelligent speed limit assist technology. The base grade further includes 16-inch alloy wheels and premium patterned black upholstery.

For the second-tier Elite grade we find Bluelink connected car services, an electrochromatic rear-view mirror and LED rear positioning light, while the third-tier Premium grade adds Parking Collision Warning, Bose premium audio, blind-spot view monitor, surround view monitor (360-degree camera system), projection type LED headlights, LED taillights and a heated steering wheel.

Finally, for N-Line variants, we find the same exterior styling as before alongside 18-inch alloy wheels and black leather upholstery with red highlights.

Hyundai says the i30 Sedan is characterised by a refreshed take on the model’s bold, progressive design which continues to be inspired by the concept of Parametric Dynamics. Aimed at younger buyers, the updated look features a wide, split horizontal grille in a Neotronic Black parametric pattern, complemented by a chrome highlight which connects the headlights.

At the rear, the fastback-style treatment is topped by a spoiler-style boot lid and a piano black trim panel directly below the rear windscreen to create the effect of an “elongated, coupe-like glasshouse”. For 2024, the i30 Sedan features a restyled lower bumper and H-lighting signature to create a “wide and low aesthetic”.

Available in nine exterior colours, the i30 Sedan range is now finished in a choice of grade dependent hues, including Atlas White (solid), Cyber Grey (metallic, N Line only), Fluid Metal (metallic), Ecotronic Grey (mica, entry grade only), Amazon Grey (metallic), Abyss Black (mica), Ultimate Red (metallic), Meta Blue (mica, Elite and Premium Only), and Intense Blue (metallic). Mica and metallic hues attract a $595 surcharge.

Inside, the 2024 Hyundai i30 Sedan range features a wrap-around dashboard and central control, large digital displays, and a full-length horizontal air vent. Highlights for ’24 include a revised wireless device charging pad to accommodate larger mobile phones, the addition of front and rear USB-C outlets, a customizable multifunction button on the steering wheel, and a newly designed 4.2-inch instrument display on the entry grade.

Hyundai says the changes are complemented by contrasting stitch work on the door cars, lowered interior door handles and a choice of upholstery – premium patterned cloth in Obsidian Black for the i30, leather-appointed Obsidian Black for Elite and Premium variants, and leather-appointed Obsidian Black with contrasting red stitching on N Line variants.

Elite grades and higher feature a 10.25-inch infotainment array with Hyundai’s Bluelink connected car services, adding features including calendar sync, remote services, find my car, remote vehicle check, and more. The system is available free-of-charge for the first five years of ownership.

“Our sporty i30 Sedan has been a popular small car in the Australian market since replacing the Elantra nameplate in October 2020,” said Hyundai Motor Company Australia chief executive officer, Ted Lee.

“The 2024 i30 Sedan is set to build on the model’s momentum with its refreshed style, revised line-up featuring new technology and, in an i30 first, Hybrid powertrain efficiency.”

The Hyundai i30 continues to dominate the Small passenger car Under $40K segment with year-to-date sales of 16,492 units. The i30 is followed by the Toyota Corolla with 14,376 sales, the Mazda 3 with 7207 sales, the Kia Cerato with 4001 sales, and the Subaru Impreza with 1941 sales.
