New models - Hyundai - i30 - 5-dr hatch range
Hyundai i30 now from $19,390Downsize: Hyundai has added a cheaper, more fuel efficient 1.6-litre petrol engine to its i30 small car. New 1.6-litre petrol variant lowers Hyundai i30 starting price by $100029 Apr 2010 HYUNDAI has added a smaller 1.6-litre petrol engine to its award-winning i30 hatchback range, lowering the entry price of the Korean giant’s popular small-car line-up to $19,390. The additional i30 SX 1.6 petrol variant is positioned precisely $1000 under the previous i30 five-door range-opener, the SX 2.0 petrol, pricing for which remains unchanged like the rest of the i30 range at $20,390 manual. Naturally, the new 1.6-litre engine – which is not available in the i30cw wagon – produces less power and torque than the 2.0-litre i30, but is still more powerful than the 1.6-litre turbo-diesel variant, which nevertheless remains the torque leader of the i30 range. Matched with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission, the 1.6 delivers 89kW of power at 6200rpm and 153Nm of torque at 4200rpm. That compares with 105kW at a lower 6000rpm and 186Nm at a higher 4600rpm for the existing 2.0-litre CVVT petrol engine, while the 1.6 CRDi offers 85kW at 4000rpm and 255Nm from just 1900rpm. Equally unsurprisingly, the i30 1.6 is more economical than the larger petrol engine, but doesn’t match the diesel for fuel consumption of CO2 emissions. On sale from yesterday (April 28), the 1.6 manual achieves a five-star federal government Green Vehicle Guide (GVG) rating to go with the i30’s five-star ANCAP crash safety rating by returning combined average fuel consumption of 6.5L/100km and CO2 emissions of 155g/km, which Hyundai says makes it the most fuel-efficient naturally aspirated engine in the small-car segment. Based on the Australian Design Rule 81/02 static laboratory combined average city and highway cycle test, the i30 SX 1.6 automatic attracts a 4.5-star GVG rating by returning 6.9L/100km and 166g/km of CO2. That compares with 7.2L/100km and 170g.km for the i30 2.0 manual (7.6L/100km, 182g/km auto), while the i30 1.6 CRDi manual returns 4.7L/100km and 125g/km (6.0L/100km and 159g/km auto). As with all i30s, the base i30 SX 1.6 comes standard with electronic stability/traction control, ABS brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, six airbags and active front head restraints. Standard equipment also continues to include air-conditioning, remote central locking, power windows/mirrors, iPod/auxiliary device connectivity and a glovebox cooling system. 2010 i30 range pricing: | SX 1.6-litre petrol | $19,390 | SX 1.6-litre petrol (a) | $21,390 | SX 2.0-litre petrol | $20,390 | SX 2.0-litre petrol (a) | $22,390 | SX 1.6-litre CRDi | $22,890 | SX 1.6-litre CRDi (a) | $24,890 | i30 SLX 2.0-litre petrol | $23,890 | SLX 2.0-litre petrol (a) | $25,890 | SLX 1.6-litre CRDi | $26,390 | SLX 1.6-litre CRDi (a) | $28,390 | SR 2.0-litre petrol | $26,540 | SR 2.0-litre petrol (a) | $28,540 | cw wagon SX 2.0-litre petrol | $21,890 | cw wagon SX 2.0-litre petrol (a) | $23,890 | cw wagon SX 1.6-litre CRDi | $24,390 | cw wagon SX 1.6-litre CRDi (a) | $26,390 | cw wagon SLX 2.0-litre petrol (a) | $27,390 | cw wagon SLX 1.6-litre CRDi (a) | $29,890 | cw wagon Sportswagon 2.0-litre petrol (a) | $28,990 |
