New models - Cupra - Formentor - VZxCupra Formentor VZx sees redRojo Edition of fiery Cupra Formentor VZx limited to just 30 examples for Australia13 Mar 2023 By MATT BROGAN CUPRA is offering 30 Australian buyers the opportunity to slip behind the wheel of its Formentor VZx Rojo Edition.
Rojo is the Spanish word for ‘red’, and the all-red Rojo Edition adds a fiery blood red finish to the sporty SUV, adding even more panache to the brand’s best-selling variant.
All Rojo Edition variants come with a panoramic sunroof as standard and are priced from $66,490 plus on-road costs or $71,490 drive-away. The equipment and mechanical details of the vehicle are otherwise identical to the donor VZx variant, which retails from $59,990 + ORC.
Cupra Australia director Ben Wilks said the Rojo Edition will arrive in the country courtesy of the wishes of a particular buyer, who was interested in purchasing a Formentor VZx in red.
“A highly motivated customer has written to myself and Cupra’s global boss Wayne Griffiths over their disappointment that the Formentor VZx hasn’t been available in red,” he said.
“Well, your wish is our command.”
Mr Wilks said the broader customer response to Cupra – which has now entered its first full calendar year in Australia – has already resulted in an increase in Born BEVs allocated to this market, and a fresh supply of Formentor and Leon VZe plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.
“As other brands withdraw from the sporty hatchback market, we have three Leon (variants) available for immediate delivery,” he added.
“Likewise, as production contracts for other brands, Cupra can deliver you an Ateca or Formentor performance SUV.”
Year-to-date sales figures show Cupra has sold 274 examples of the Formentor nationally, placing it in step with segment rivals including the Ford Escape (256) and Skoda Karoq (301).
The sub-$60K medium SUV segment is dominated by mainstream competitors including the Mazda CX-5 (with 4789 sales to the end of February 2023) and Toyota RAV4 (4073 units), with similarly strong performance from Mitsubishi’s Outlander (3840) and Hyundai’s Tucson (3171). 2023 Cupra Formentor pricing*:
