Bolwell Car Co sets a sub-$200,000 sticker price for awesome Nagari coupe

10 Nov 2008

THE Bolwell Car Co has announced that its Nagari supercar will be priced from $198,000 – just below the $200,000 figure the Australian performance-car outfit nominated as the minimum when the coupe made its world debut at the Melbourne International Motor Show in March.

The Victorian marque has also detailed the standard equipment, options and final mechanical specifications for the stunning two-seater.

As general manager Brian Wilson told GoAuto in September, the mid-mounted Toyota-sourced 3.5-litre 24-valve quad-cam V6 engine in the lightweight coupe produces a maximum power figure of 220kW (at 6200rpm) when running on premium-unleaded fuel. Peak torque is 345Nm at 4700rpm.

As expected, the kerb weight has come in at 920kg, with a 40:60 front/rear bias. No performance figures have been supplied, but 0-100km/h should be completed in about four seconds when driving through the standard six-speed semi-automatic transmission (with sequential paddle shift).

A conventional six-speed manual gearbox will be available as an option, as will a supercharger kit for even more performance.

A supercharged version of the “Aurion” engine was shown in the prototype Nagari in Melbourne, but compliance and durability issues led to the naturally aspirated version slotting into the standard specification.

Other features onboard the Nagari include 19-inch alloy composite wheels, ABS brakes, an underbody aero kit (front and rear), sports exhaust, UV-protected windscreen, Recaro seats (with Nagari emblem), leather trim (matched to the metallic exterior colour, which is also included in the price), a Momo steering wheel (with carbon-fibre paddle shifter), remote central locking, cruise control, air-conditioning, electric windows/mirrors, height- and reach-adjustable steering, door sill scuff plates, and a Polaris GPS stereo comprising sat-nav, rear-view camera, DVD/CD audio and high-spec two-way speakers.

Resting on a 2260mm wheelbase, the Nagari is constructed using “high-impact” composites with extensive carbon-fibre reinforcement. Double wishbone suspension is used at the front and rear (with adjustable spring/shocks all round) and power-assisted rack and pinion steering.

The brakes are 355mm vented and slotted discs front and rear, with lightweight six-piston callipers up front and large single-piston callipers at the rear.

Overall length is 4100mm, width 1830mm and height 1190mm. The track is 1560mm/1542mm front/rear.

The Nagari will be built to order, with chassis numbers now available for reservation with a (refundable) deposit. Demonstration days early in 2009 are planned for confirmed buyers.
