Paris show: Peugeot unveils 508 Touring

PEUGEOT has ripped the covers off the wagon version of its 508 large car ahead of a public debut at the Paris motor show in October, with Peugeot’s local arm mulling the decision to bring it Down Under.

 

Measuring 20mm taller and 30mm longer than the sedan version unveiled at the Geneva motor show in March, the 508 Touring wears the same front fascia as the sedan, but has a different rear end with an elongated tailgate, sloped profile, roof spoiler and the manufacturer’s name emblazoned under the rear glass.

 

The 3D full-LED adaptive tail-lights are borrowed from the sedan, but the loading area is 24mm wider and 60mm lower to the ground than the four-door.

 

Boot space is rated at 530 litres, and can be expanded to 1780 litres by folding the 60:40 rear seats, which can be folded almost flat to the floor.

 

Like the sedan, the 508 Touring gains Peugeot’s i-Cockpit, consisting of a low-set steering wheel, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.0-inch infotainment system.

 

Interior highlights include a full leather steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, 10-speaker Focal sound system, and the choice of Alcantara or Nappa leather upholstery.

 

A bevy of new safety features will be included on the Touring, including autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, blind spot monitor full park assist, cornering LED headlights, driver attention alert, automatic high beam, speed limit and traffic sign recognition and a night vision system. The latter uses an infrared camera to detect living beings in night or low-visibility conditions.

 

Two petrol and four diesel engines will be offered globally, with a 1.6-litre turbocharged PureTech petrol four-cylinder in 134kW and 168kW states of tune.

 

The diesels consist of a 97kW 1.5-litre mill and a 2.0-litre BlueHDi unit offering 119kW and 134kW configurations.

 

All versions will come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the 1.5-litre diesel will also have the choice of a six-speed manual.

 

A plug-in hybrid petrol version will also be offered in the second half of 2019, with an all-electric range of 50km.

 

The 508 Touring will be available for sale in Europe from January 2019, and internationally in the second half of the year. While the sedan is confirmed for an Australian debut, Peugeot Australia is still weighing up whether to bring the wagon Down Under as well, with a decision expected in the future.
