AIMS: Skoda to reveal Fabia, Yeti pricing

Volkswagen’s Czech mate Skoda to announce pricing for two crucial new models at AIMS

24 Jun 2011

SKODA will announce the pricing of two crucial new models – the light-sized Fabia hatchback and the Yeti compact SUV – at this year’s Australian International Motor show in Melbourne on July 1. The Czech brand will display and announce pricing for both the entry-level Fabia 77TSI and the sports-flavoured Monte Carlo special-edition, both of which are powered by the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol currently seen here in Volkswagen’s Polo five-door.

Skoda’s Melbourne show stand will also feature the much-anticipated, Volkswagen Polo GTI-engined Fabia vRS hot hatch, but pricing for both it and the Fabia wagon will be announced closer to the launch of each model – likely to be in the first quarter of 2012.

Pricing for the long-awaited Yeti range, which made its local debut at last year’s AIMS in Sydney, will also be revealed for both 2WD and 4WD variants.

As GoAuto has previously reported, the Yeti is likely to be available in 77TSI 2WD petrol and 103TDI AWD diesel versions, with a petrol AWD variant also a possibility.

Meanwhile, the company will also reveal a new entry-level diesel variant of the Superb large car, with the Volkswagen group’s 103 TDI set to slot in beneath the existing 125 TDI-engined variant.

The new drivetrain will be available in both sedan and wagon models, as well as front- and all wheel-drive variants, but whether it will undercut the current price-leading 118TSI petrol model remains to be seen.

The rest of the Skoda line-up, including the recently-introduced Octavia Scout DSG crossover, will also be on the company’s stand – it’s biggest in Australia to date.

Head of Skoda Australia, Matthew Wiesner, told GoAuto that the show presents an opportunity for the brand to re-affirm its commitment to the Australian market.

“This year’s show is a big focus for us as we have over 400 square-metres, making it our biggest yet,” he said.

“We will be revealing our brand’s new CI (corporate identity) in conjunction with the new models, so it is very much about showing everyone the next stage in Skoda’s evolution here in Australia.”
