By THE GOAUTO TEAM in MELBOURNE

TITLE: Australian International Motor Show (Melbourne)WHERE: Melbourne Convention Centre, Australia

WHEN: Melbourne: Early July from 2011 - every odd year

STATUS: CANCELLED - Subsequent years TBAUpdated 25 March 2013ORGANISERS cancelled the 2013 Australian International Motor Show after a number of car-makers indicated they would rather spend the money elsewhere.

It is uncertain whether renewed interest would herald the return of the show or if the cancellation is permanent and ongoing. The fate of the Sydney show also unknown at this stage.

History:Formerly Australia’s oldest new-car expo – the Melbourne International Motor Show – ceased to exist after the 75th annual event was held in March 2009.

Sydney also held an annual motor show. It was called the Australian International Motor show from 2004 to 2008 and before that it was known as the Sydney Motor Show.

But squabbling by car companies over the high cost of staging two international standard exhibits within Australia in the same year lead to the amalgamation of the Sydney and Melbourne events.

Both shows were later replaced by a joint venture between the organisers of the Sydney motor show, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) and the organisers of the Melbourne show the Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC ) under the ‘Motor Show Joint Venture’ Australian International Motor Show (AIMS) agreement.

Frankfurt and Paris have a similar alternating agreement every September in Europe, while the Tokyo show is on during every odd year
