Geneva show: Lamborghini lifts lid on Huracan Evo

Lamborghini Huracan Evo scores Spyder body style, retains Performante V10 heart

28 Feb 2019

MONTHS after revealing the Huracan Evo in coupe coupe, Lamborghini has revealed the drop-top Spyder version ahead of a public debut at the Geneva motor show, with it ushering in the same Performante-inspired equipment as its hard-top sibling.

Like the coupe, the new Huracan Evo Spyder scores the uprated 5.2-litre free-breathing V10 from the Performante, outputting 470kW at 8000rpm and 600Nm at 6500rpm – a lift of 21kW/40Nm.

The uprated engine allows the Spyder to sprint from standstill to 100km/h in 3.1 seconds – 0.2s slower than the coupe – and on to a top speed to 325km/h.

Power is channelled to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, while traction is delivered via the new-gen Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata (LDVI) vehicle dynamics system that can distribute torque to any single wheel as required, aided by a mechanical locking differential on the rear axle.

For the first time, the Huracan Evo Spyder will be offered with rear-wheel steering to aid agility at low speeds and stability at high speeds, while the Lamborghini Dynamic Steering (LDS) provides greater responsiveness while cornering.

An upgraded version of the Huracan’s magnetic rheological suspension is fitted, which offers adaptive damping when paired to the Lamborghini Piattaforma Inerziale (LPI) system, which uses a system of accelerators and gyroscope sensors to measure the car’s dynamic abilities.

Three dive modes will be available via the Anima system, including Strada, Sport and race-focused Corsa.

A number of aerodynamic enhancements have been added that gives the Huracan Evo Spyder five times more downforce and aerodynamic efficiency than the original Huracan Spyder.

Some new styling enhancements have been added to match the coupe, including a new front bumper, front splitter and enlarged air intakes, while the rear scores a new sports exhaust set higher in the bumper and an integrated, slotted spoiler.

Twenty-inch Aesir rims come as standard, while the underbody of the Huracan Evo has also been reshaped to maximise aerodynamic efficiency.

Obviously, the major exterior difference is the electrohydraulic soft-top, made of black fabric and able to be opened and closed in 17 seconds at speeds of up to 50km/h.

The soft-top roof adds 120kg of weight over the coupe, bringing the Huracan Evo Spyder’s kerb weight to 1542kg.

A new four-layer green exterior paint colour called Verde Selvans has been added to the Huracan’s colour palette.

Inside, the Huracan Evo Spyder gains a new 8.4-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and smartphone integration, while a new Evo trim featuring leather and Alcantara trim will be offered as an option.

Pricing and local timing are yet to be confirmed, but the Spyder can be expected to carry a price premium over its coupe counterpart.
