Detroit show: Mercedes' new E-Class exposed

Family ties: Continuing with the same design language that made its other luxury sedans a hit, Mercedes' next-generation E-Class will look right at home next to its C-Class and S-Class siblings.

IMAGES of Mercedes' next-generation E-Class have leaked online ahead of the official reveal at next week's 2016 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).

The leaked images reveal the design of the 10th-generation E-Class carries the same styling philosophy as Mercedes' smaller C-Class and larger S-Class brethren, with generous proportions but a poised and confident stance.

A familiar front grille with prominent Mercedes logo is flanked by two horizontal bars, which is positioned above two large air intakes and a front splitter, giving an almost identical face to its relatives.

The rear-end features a large boot lid surrounded by wrap-around tail lights which sit above prominent dual chrome exhaust tips.

The interior, glimpsed in 2015, shows off its Mercedes DNA with a familiar centre stack and infotainment control system, but a new, larger display panel covers almost two-thirds of the dash, incorporating two screens to show instrumentation and entertainment information on each.

Powertrain choices are expected to align with the current E-Class range with a choice of petrol, diesel and hybrid options, and a fire-breathing AMG variant expected some time down the line.

Mercedes has also touted its autonomous driving intentions for the upcoming E-Class, showing off remote parking, car-to-car communications and GPS cruise control.

The luxury large-sized sedan has been teased extensively in the lead up to Detroit during the Christmas and New Year period, with Mercedes releasing two videos and a sketch image, which detailed its extensive development process and hinted at the new look.
