Show Dates: 12 January 2015 - 25 January 2015 13/01/2015 The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) has officially kicked off today with doors opening to media and journalists from around the world.

Although only one day in, the surprises have hit hard and fast.

Chevrolet flexed its electric vehicle muscle, showing off its next-generation Volt and Australian-designed Bolt small-car.

The Aussie designed Buick Avenir was also a crowd-pleaser, with a bold design and an emphasis on connected technologies.

Honda pulled the covers off its long-gestating NSX project to finally reveal what the production sportscar will look like once it is released next year.

Hyundai stunned audiences with the unveiling of its Santa Cruz Crossover Truck concept, a new and edgy Korean take on the familiar Aussie ute formula, designed to appeal to a burgeoning American youth market.

However, the biggest surprise from the first day was definitely reserved for Ford, who showcased its hardcore, track-honed Mustang Shelby GT 350R and the third-genereation version of its iconic GT supercar.

Perhaps a sign of the times, Ford also took this opportunity to announce its partnership with Microsoft and confirmed that the next chapter in the Forza Motorsport racing game series is under development and will feature the Ford GT on the cover.

With the NAIAS just kicking off, expect more surprises to come out of Detroit over the next few days, so stay tuned to GoAuto for all the latest news as it happens.

17/11/2014 The first of the big motor shows to kick off the new year, the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) has always been the stage for big reveals that influence shows for the rest of the year.

Held in Detroit, 2014 saw an assortment of concept car introductions including the surprise rear-wheel driven Kia GT4 Stinger, the rugged Volkswagen Beetle Dune and the show-stealing Toyota FT-1.

The Germans were also on hand to showcase their latest models with BMW presenting its pair of performance-orientated twins, the M3 and M4, for the first time to the general public as well as Mercedes-Benz lifting the lid on its next-generation C-Class.

The 2015 NAIAS is once again looking like it could be another watershed moment for the automotive industry.

GM has already revealed that they will be brining the next-generation Volt to the show, while it is also rumoured that Audi is poised to display its all new large SUV Q7 on the show floor.
