The snow and ice couldn't dampen the spirit of the North American motorshow, with plenty of hot metal rolled out for the crowds this year.

As expected, new products surfaced from all corners of the world in the form of a monster twin-turbo V12 engined S-Class from Mercedes, a high-performance Q50 from Infiniti and a more sporty re-incarnation of what is likely to be the next Maxima by Nissan.

Toyota dropped a bombshell by unveiling an extreme sportscar concept named the FT-1, while Kia continued the shock-tactics with its out-there GT4 Stinger coupe.

Of course, it wouldn't be an American show without some American hardware and Chevrolet didn't disappoint, wheeling-out a wild Corvette Z06 powered by a 430kW/740Nm supercharged V8 with looks as aggressive as the power.

Porsche turned up to the party with a more subtle offering and a retro revival of its 1960s Targa, while Audi kept up the German presence with a baby plug-in hybrid crossover concept.

With the dust only just settling we are already looking forward to the Geneva motorshow in March so stay with us for all the latest at GoAuto.11/01/2014The blizzards have abated just in time for our journalists to land in the freezing North of America.

With only days left to wait before the start of this year’s Detroit show, anticipation is building fast, aided by images of not one but three vehicles leaked prior to their unveiling.

Chrysler’s mid-sized 200 sedan, Subaru’s eagerly awaited WRX STI and the XC Coupe concept from Volvo have all been revealed before their intended date.

Still under wraps however, is a nostalgic return of Volkswagen’s beach buggy in the form of a concept named the Beetle Dune, while Mercedes will also out a new high-performance lifestyle focused vehicle in the GLA 45 AMG compact crossover.

A motorshow just wouldn’t be a motorshow without some luscious models, and this year Lexus and Kia will be just a couple of manufacturers to reveal strikingly styled, sporty looking vehicles to keep the crowds cooing.

Stay with us as we bring you all the very best from this year’s Detroit motorshow at GoAuto19/12/2013WITH less than a month to go before Detroit kicks off the 2014 motor show calendar, we have already been given a taste of what to expect from some of the world’s biggest car-makers in January.

Ingolstadt-based Audi has released sketches of its unnamed two-door crossover concept that should give punters an early look at the design direction for its next generation of Q-series SUVs, including the hulking Q7 that is due in 2015.

Fellow Euro Volvo is also on the SUV train, with confirmation it will debut its XC Coupe concept that will also give hints at the styling of its next-generation range of SUVs.

With cues from the stunning Concept Coupe that debuted at the Frankfurt show in September, the XC Coupe should keep Volvo fanatics happy while grabbing the attention of design nerds.

Japanese luxury rivals Infiniti and Lexus will debut a concept each at Detroit, with the Toyota-owned marque set to show off a stonking ‘R’ version of its sexy RC Coupe that debuted at Tokyo last month.

Infiniti will also take a stab at a performance car with its Q50 sedan-based Eau Rouge, while Mini will show an almost-production-ready John Cooper Works concept.

Kia is giving little away about its 2+2 sportscar concept but if its previous concepts, including the Niro and Prova are anything to go by, it should be a looker.

The North American International Auto Show is the largest motor show in the US and 2014 looks set to host some of the biggest reveals of the year.

German car-maker Mercedes-Benz will debut its next-generation C-Class that will sit on a new modular rear architecture platform and will feature a wheelbase that is 90mm longer than the current model.

Fellow Euro BMW will premiere its 2 Series that takes over from the 1 Series Coupe and Convertible in its line-up.

If past years are anything to go by, the big three US-based automotive giants – GM, Ford and Chrysler – could pull out a few surprises, especially given it is the home market for all three brands.
