Volkswagen announces Tiguan Allspace specification

VOLKSWAGEN Group Australia (VGA) has detailed specification for the Tiguan Allspace seven-seat mid-size SUV ahead of its arrival in local showrooms in July.

While pricing is set to be revealed closer to launch, VGA has confirmed five variants will be offered across two grades – entry-level Comfortline and flagship Highline.

The Comfortline grade will be available with three turbocharged four-cylinder engine options, dubbed 110TSI, 132TSI and 110TDI.

Specifically, the 110TSI employs front-wheel drive, a six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission and a 110kW/250Nm 1.4-litre petrol mill.

Alternatively, the 132TSI and 110TDI use 4Motion all-wheel drive, a seven-speed DSG and 2.0-litre units, with the former employing a 132kW/320Nm petrol while the latter has a 110kW/340Nm diesel.

Meanwhile, the Highline grade will be offered with two 2.0-litre turbo four-pot powertrain choices, known as 162TSI and 140TDI, with each using the 4Motion system and seven-speed DSG.

The petrol-powered 162TSI – pinched from the Golf GTI hot hatch – produces 162kW/350Nm, while the diesel-powered 140TDI develops 140kW/400Nm.

Standard equipment in all variants will include dynamic LED headlights with dusk-sensing functionality, front foglights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, power-folding side mirrors with silver caps, a power tailgate and driving modes (excluding 110TSI Comfortline).

Inside, satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android support, three USB ports, keyless entry and start, three-zone climate control and a rechargeable torch in the luggage area are set to feature.

Advanced driver-assist safety technologies will extend to forward collision warning, low-speed autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, multi-collision brake, front and rear parking sensors, manoeuvre braking, a reversing camera and park assist.

Additionally, the Comfortline grade is set to offer an 8.0-inch Discover Media touchscreen infotainment system and 18-inch Kingston alloy wheels, while the Highline grade will counter with a 9.2-inch Discover Pro unit and 19-inch Auckland rims.

The Highline grade is set to further add LED tail-lights, dynamic light assist, adaptive chassis control, interior ambient lighting, Vienna leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats with memory functionality, and first- and second-row heated seats.

Safety features will also expand to adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, dynamic light assist, steering assist and emergency assist.

Four option packages are set to be available, with the Driver Assistance and Luxury packages limited to the Comfortline grade, while the R-Line package will be restricted to the Highline grade. However, the Sound and Vision package is set to be offered with any variant.

Specifically, the Driver Assistance package bundles in blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, dynamic light assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, and emergency assist.

The Luxury package includes Vienna leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats with memory functionality and heating, a panoramic sunroof and interior ambient lighting.

Meanwhile, the R-Line package features R-Line-style bumpers, side sills, sport seats, aluminium scuff plates and steering wheel with paddle shifters as well as a black rear spoiler, 20-inch Suzuka alloy wheels, brushed stainless-steel pedals and a black roofliner.

The Sound and Vision package envelops a 12.3-inch Active Info Display digital instrument cluster, a Dynaudio Excite sound system and a 360-degree camera.

Six exterior paint colours will be available, including Pure White, Platinum Grey Metallic, Deep Black Pearl Effect, White Silver Metallic, Blue Silk Metallic and Ruby Red Metallic.

As previously reported, the Tiguan Allspace is 215mm longer than the five-seat Tiguan, at 4704mm, owing to its 106mm longer rear overhang and 109mm longer wheelbase that accommodate the added third row.

Nevertheless, cargo capacity is 230 litres but can expand to 730L with the third row stowed, or 1770L with all five rear seats folded flat.

When it arrives, the Tiguan Allspace will go toe-to-toe with other seven-seat mid-size SUVs such as the Nissan X-Trail, Mitsubishi Outlander, Honda CR-V and Peugeot 5008.
