The company used an EV symposium in Norway last week to announce both the homologation and the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Spanish government that will see it deliver 550 City EVs. The first of these will be delivered in the final quarter of this year. Although Think had already secured homologation for its urban-oriented, emissions-free EV in a number of European countries, the company said the certificate would result in “reduced costs and lead-times for the manufacturer, importers and consumers”. “The combination of government-led demonstration programs followed by incentives for consumers to purchase EVs is a pattern that leading governments around the world are following,” said Think CEO Richard Canny. “It helps get EVs on the market, increases the scale for lithium-ion battery producers and drives the cost of these batteries down”. The two-seater City has a range of 180km on a fully charged battery and is claimed to accelerate from 0-50km/h in 6.5 seconds. The car requires 16 seconds to reach 80km/h. The Spanish deal follows a similar program signed in March with the Netherlands, where Think will deliver up to 500 city EVs to ElmoNet, a subsidiary of Mobility Service Netherlands.
