The entry-level six-speed manual Megane RS280 Sport will be powered by a 205kW/390Nm 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, sending grunt exclusively to the front wheels, and aided through the corners by a four-wheel steering system. While full local specifications will be revealed closer to launch, the Cup Chassis option will add 10 per cent stiffer dampers and a Torsen mechanical limited-slip differential (LSD) that has a broader transfer rate range compared with the outgoing model. According to Renault, the LSD will help eliminate understeer, increase traction and sharpen the French hot hatch’s turn in. Only available on manual cars, the Cup Chassis will be easily distinguished by red Brembo brake callipers and also features composite aluminium and cast iron brake discs. The dual-clutch automatic version of the Megane RS is also expected to launch wearing a slight price premium, as well as more hardcore versions down the track. For comparison, the Renault Megane RS 280 is priced above front-drive hot hatches including the perennial Volkswagen Golf GTI ($41,990), Ford Focus ST ($38,990) and new Hyundai i30 N ($39,990), but below the VW Golf R ($53,490), Ford Focus RS ($50,990) and Honda Civic Type R ($50,990). Renault Australia managing director Andrew Moore said the introduction of the Cup Chassis option was in response to customer demand. “Following the international launch of the all-new Megane RS, we received strong feedback from media, customers and dealers that they would like to have the option of a Cup chassis on the entry model Megane RS 280,” he said. “We’re thrilled that the factory have supported us in responding to our customers and making this option available to our customers.” Read more14th of September 2017 Frankfurt show: Renault Megane RS on fast track hereNew Renault Megane RS hot hatch could arrive in Australia as early as next MayAll future modelsAlfa Romeo Abarth Alpine Alpina Audi Aston Martin BMW Bentley Chery Brabham Chrysler Chevrolet Cupra Citroen DS Dodge Fiat Ferrari Foton Ford Great Wall FPV Haval GWM Honda Holden Hummer HSV Infiniti Hyundai Jaguar Isuzu Kia Jeep Land Rover Lamborghini Lexus LDV Mahindra Lotus Mazda Maserati Mercedes-AMG McLaren MG Mercedes-Benz Mitsubishi Mini Opel Nissan Peugeot Pagani Proton Porsche Renault Ram Rover Rolls-Royce Skoda Saab SsangYong Smart Suzuki Subaru Toyota Tesla Volvo Volkswagen Megane pricingMotor industry news |
