With 407 sales having dropped 54.4 per cent from 1318 units to only 601 last year (and down a further 41.5 per cent this year), Peugeot Australia will be hoping for a reversal of fortunes, but has yet to announce what it will do about pricing. The company has simplified the model range by dropping the current 2.2-litre four-cylinder and 3.0-litre V6 petrol engines while retaining the turbo-diesel options – a 2.0-litre developing 104kW of power (up 4kW) and 320Nm of torque, and a twin-turbo 2.7-litre V6 producing 150kW and 440Nm. Australia will not get the revised 1.6-litre unit available in Europe, where it is sold as a special low-emission model with low-rolling-resistance tyres. Changes to the facelifted 407 include revised tail-lights and centre console, and a thin chrome rubbing strip that runs from the front to the rear of the car.
