Last of a line: The current Opel Vectra will end a 20-year run.
GENERAL Motors' European arm Opel has announced that it will replace its Vectra nameplate for Insignia when the medium-sized car enters its new generation next year.
By the time the new model arrives, it will be 20 years since Opel introduced the Vectra nameplate with the first Ascona-replacing model in 1988.
To be built in Germany, Opel's new model family will make its world premiere at the London motor show in July 2008.
However, it will not be coming to Australia because Holden now sells the Daewoo-built Epica as its mid-size entry.
