Future models - Mitsubishi - LancerMitsu brings next Lancer to MelbourneMitsubishi previews its redesigned Lancer via the Concept-Sportback in Melbourne6 Mar 2007 By MARTON PETTENDY and NEIL MCDONALD THE next-generation Lancer sedan and hatch are still many months away from Aussie shores, but that didn't stop Mitsubishi Motors Australia from using Friday’s Melbourne motor show opening to present an Australian debut for the Concept-Sportback - the show car that will essentially become the all-new hatch version. The Concept-Sportback was created by Mitsubishi Design Europe’s exterior chief designer Omer Halilhodzic and his team, based in Germany. The vehicle shows off the new styling cues that will be picked up by both the new Lancer sedan when it arrives later this year as well as, ultimately, the turbocharged Evo X super-sedan and the all-new Lancer hatch – particularly the car’s aggressive front-end styling comprising a deep grille that extends into the lower bumper area. The Concept-Sportback is claimed to combine the pinnacle of Mitsubishi’s sporting credentials overlaid by a stylish new European design language.
