Future models - MG - EZSMG uncovers EZS electric SUVChinese and European on-sale date next year, but MG EZS still unconfirmed for Oz20 Nov 2018 By TUNG NGUYEN MG MOTOR has used this year’s Guangzhou motor show to uncover its first all-electric model, the EZS emissions-free crossover, which sports up to 428km of driving range and will go on sale in international markets next year.
However, it is still unclear whether MG’s latest will be offered Down Under as the only markets currently confirmed are the brand’s home country of China as well as Europe.
Precise powertrain details such as power and torque outputs are yet to be revealed, but electric consumption is rated at 13.8kW per 100km, indicating a circa 60kWh-sized battery.
Little else is known about the full-electric EZS, but it is expected to be the flagship of the ZS range, sitting well above the $20,990 before on-roads ZS Soul and $23,990 Essence.
For comparison, the Soul is powered by an 84kW/150Nm 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and the Essence uses an 82kW/160Nm 1.0-litre three-pot unit.
MG Motor Australia marketing director Danny Lenartic said the local division would study the suitability of the full electric variant for the local market.
“We’re inspired to see the continued innovation emerging from the global SAIC technical centre of excellence in Shanghai,” he said.
“Having launched the ZS in Australia with two engine options and to wide acclaim by our customers, MG Motor Australia will continue to evaluate the local market demand for fully electric version of the ZS.
“The MG ZS model line up is performing very well from a sales point of view locally and has been vital in helping us exceed our sales targets in 2018 to-date.”
MG has sold 1324 examples of the ZS so far this year, accounting for over half of the brand’s 2323 year-to-date total.
