Future models - Lexus - RX - RX400hLexus hybrids roll upA hybrid SUV? Lexus delivers an RX that will appease fuel-conscious drivers10 Aug 2006 LEXUS Australia has confirmed that its RX400h petrol-electric 4WD will be launched in Australia next month, joining the GS450h large sedan as the second hybrid Lexus model locally. Just as the petrol-electric became Australia's first hybrid luxury car, the RX400h will become Australia's first hybrid SUV, combining a 3.3-litre V6 petrol engine with two electric motors - one driving the front wheels and another driving the rear. Before the May release of the GS450h, Australian buyers had access to just two (small) hybrid models: Toyota's second-generation Prius and Honda's second-generation Civic Hybrid. Further afield, the fourth-quarter release of Lexus' all-new flagship, the LS460 sedan, will be followed a hybrid version in 2007, bringing the number of Lexus Australia's hybrid models to three. "The introduction of RX400h later this year demonstrates Lexus' commitment to hybrid technology," according to Lexus Australia divisional manager, Scott Grant. "These vehicles are the way of the future, and RX400h boasts all of the hybrid technology, but it is also loaded with power-hungry features. "The launch of GS450h has been a tremendous achievement for Lexus. To introduce a second hybrid vehicle in 2006 is an exciting result for us. RX400h gives drivers the opportunity to experience all the luxury benefits of a Lexus 4WD without placing undue strain on the environment."
