Future models - Lexus - LSFirst look: LF-Sh concept reveals glimpse of new Lexus LSLuxury and hybrids do go together as Lexus demonstrates at the Tokyo motor show21 Oct 2005 IT may be a show car but the Lexus "study model" is the next-generation LS due to be officially unveiled at January’s Detroit motor show. Borrowing some strong styling cues from the just-launched IS Series, the LF-Sh concept features a sweeping profile, high rear deck and echoes of a BMW 5 Series in its overall shape. It’s obvious the in-house designers at Lexus are shooting for a stronger visual impact, as the concept is more aggressively styled than the current LS430. The new LS is designed to go head-to-head with the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-class. According to Tokyo sources, two versions will be offered, the LS460, with a 260kW 4.6-litre V8 while the top model, the 5.0-litre V8 LS600 will get hybrid drive via two electric motors. The luxury sedan is also expected to get all-wheel drive in some markets and a longwheelbase limousine version is also mooted. At 5059mm long the concept LF-Sh is about 6mm longer than the current car and has a 44mm longer wheelbase at 2969mm. Toyota is believed to be working on a new seven-speed tiptronic automatic, as well as a lane-departure warning system and updated version of its night-vision system for the car. Also at Tokyo was the new GS450h, a hybrid that goes on sale next year. The GS combines a 3.5-litre V6 with a powerful electric motor that together deliver 253kW.
