The fleet of six full-size models appeared in prominent UK capital locations such as the world-renowned department store Harrods, as well as other affluent suburbs including Mayfair. The British car-maker says the publicity stunt gives the public a chance to see how the unorthodox SUV will fit into its “natural urban environment,” suggesting it will be more city slicker than rural weekend warrior. Range Rover is not saying whether the production model will be available in any of the sculpture's pastel hues, which range from orange, through yellow and green to blue, but instead explains the spectrum represents the evolution of the tin-top to the convertible. When it officially debuts at the Los Angeles motor show next month, green oval fans will already have a good idea what to expect with the latest round of teaser images following the appearance of a camouflaged prototype in March and a 2012 Geneva motor show concept that appears very similar. No details accompany the six vehicles but the skeletal cars wear a five-spoke wheel design almost identical to the 2012 concept's rims, while a subtle boot lip spoiler and rear diffuser are new additions. The aluminium sculptures also appear to confirm the Convertible name plate with the registration plates reading #EvoqueConvertible. The new model has been confirmed for Australia following its LA debut, and is expected to touch down locally early next year. It is expected to carry a premium over its coupe sibling, which kicks off from $51,495 for the two-wheel drive eD4. Land Rover's design director and chief creative officer Gerry McGovern said London's well-heeled suburbs provided the perfect backdrop for the Evoque Convertible campaign. “The Range Rover Evoque Convertible is perfectly suited to the urban surroundings of a city like London, and it's the perfect place to showcase the world's first luxury compact SUV convertible,” he said. “The locations chosen reflect the refined and luxurious lifestyle of an Evoque Convertible customer – two attributes this vehicle delivers in abundance.” In March, the company released a video of the disguised Convertible negotiating an underground labyrinth of London tunnels and obstacles to demonstrate the car's ability in more challenging terrain.
