Lamborghini pulls out all stops with its limited-edition, Murcielago-based Reventon

11 Sep 2007

LAMBORGHINI has revealed a stunning supercar even more exclusive than its Murcielago LP640. The limited-edition Reventon is about to be revealed at the Frankfurt motor show, which starts this evening (Australian time).

Only 20 of the sleek machines will be made and the price could be as high as $1.5 million. The Reventon is based on the $700,000 Murcielago, but features a unique exterior and interior design.

“It’s basically a super version of the Murcielago, inspired by Batman,” said Lamborghini Australia managing director, Andrew Smith.

Mr Smith said the Reventon was only being built in left-hand-drive and therefore none were heading to Australia.

The Reventon was shaped by Lamborghini’s Centro Stile design house in Bologna, Italy.

“Our designers took the technical base of the Murcielago LP640 and compressed and intensified its DNA, its genetic code,” said Lamborghini CEO, Stephan Winkelmann.

“The Reventon is the most extreme of them all, a true automotive superlative,” he said.

The all-new exterior design of the Reventon is said to use aeronautical cues includes a V-shaped nose to slice through the air. Lamborghini has also made a feature of the large angled air-vents at either side of the front bumper.

The redesigned headlights now feature LED lights as well as the traditional bi-Xenon lights.

Styling changes can also been seen on the side of the vehicle with enlarged air vents feeding the rear brakes and fresh, bulkier shoulder lines.

The rear of the vehicle looks quite different to the regular Murcielago, with a mass of angled lines surrounding the central exhaust outlet.

Adding to the Reventon’s futuristic look are LED tail-lights, which have been specially treated to cope with heat from the mid-mounted engine and the large exhaust system. Lamborghini stylists have used angular surface language on all panels of the Reventon, which several creases picking up the light.

The interior is naturally luxurious, with a mixture of beige Alcantara, grey leather and carbon-fibre.

There is a new instrument panel using TFT liquid crystal display housed in a milled aluminium surround.

A new feature is a G-force metre that displays exactly how much force is being exerted on the occupants under braking, acceleration and cornering. Lamborghini has not altered the mechanicals of the Murcielago donor car, which uses a 6.5-litre V12 with 471kW and 660Nm of torque, fed through a constant all-wheel-drive system.

That allows the Reventon to blast from 0-100km/h in just 3.4 seconds and hit a top speed of 340km/h.

All Reventon cars come standard with the E-Gear automated manual transmission, which is controlled via steering wheel-mounted shift paddles.
