Melbourne Show: JAC’s finest to land in Aus

Flashy JAC De-Fine electric supercar concept to make Melbourne Motor Show splash

13 Mar 2025

JAC Motors has confirmed it will exhibit its De-Fine supercar concept in Australia for the first time, rolling it out for the Melbourne Motor Show in April.

The brand, known in Australia for Chinese-made utes and trucks, unveiled its all-electric supercar concept in China last year, showcasing what JAC Motors describes as its “guiding intelligence with intelligence" framework for the future embodied by the sleek and quirky De-Fine.

Despite its coupe-like stance, the De-Fine concept is a four-door with small rear-opening second-row doors like a Mazda RX-8 – and it will seat four in what appear to be matching bucket seats front and back.

So visually striking is the concept, it took out the Outstanding Design Concept category in the 2024 Red Dot Awards – an esteemed global industrial design award.

Under the skin lies an 800-volt electrical system that feeds a 460kW silicon-carbide motor driving all four wheels, good for a 0-100km/h sprint time of “around three seconds”.

Technical Details are somewhat vague, but the De-Fine rides on what JAC calls its Cross-Domain Integration Intelligent Chassis, which is said to provide six-way active control, the ability to run electric or hybrid systems, and exchangeable energy sources – potentially Nio-style battery swap systems.

It is apparently also capable of running in two- or four-wheel drive.

For the interior, JAC makes use of a panoramic curved cockpit display measuring an enormous 50 inches, accompanied by a 15.6-inch central screen.

JAC says the panoramic screen will allow “immersive movie watching and interactive gaming” when stationary.

“We are thrilled to bring our visionary and award-winning concept for future mobility to Australia for the first time,” said JAC Motors Australia managing director Ahmed Mahmoud.

“The JAC De-Fine is a bold vision of the future of sustainable transportation that highlights JAC Motors’ pioneering spirit and passion for innovation.”

Despite the hype surrounding the De-Fine concept, JAC has not indicated whether it will enter production. However, this design study is likely to inform future models and perhaps even its utes.

This month, JAC released its facelifted T9 dual-cab ute in Australia, in base Oasis (from $42,662 excluding on-road costs) and Haven (from $45,630 + ORC) grades, which are planned to bask in the glory of the De-Fine concept at Melbourne Motor Show.

JAC clearly chasing a slice of Australia’s busy ute market, pricing the generously equipped T9 variants below $50K to undercut the majority of Japanese-branded options while its seven-year/unlimited kilometre warranty offering also outshines much of the competition.

“The JAC motor-show stand is not just about the future. It will also showcase our stars of today,” said Mr Mahmoud.

“In addition to the JAC De-Fine concept, we’re bringing Australia’s safest ute, the JAC T9
dual-cab 4x4, which not only offers fantastic value, it is fast becoming the smart choice for
Australians who work and play hard.”
