Bangkok show: GM teases tough truck

GENERAL Motors has issued a teaser photo of one of two show vehicles it intends to unveil on the Chevrolet stand of the Bangkok motor show starting next week.

The rugged-looking vehicle appears to be a heavy duty 4x4 truck armed with a snorkel air intake, roof rack and black plastic wheel-arch extenders over chunky off-road tyres.

Chevrolet's bow-tie badge is front and centre on the grille of the metallic orange vehicle.

According to the blurb accompanying the picture, the show vehicles “will hint at new directions for the brand’s (Chevrolet’s) focus on pick-up trucks and SUVs in the Thai market”.

As Thailand is the home manufacturing base for the Colorado and Colorado 7 (Trailblazer) sold by both Holden and Chevrolet, the show vehicles might well be based on the facelifted Colorado range that is due out later this year.

As GoAuto has reported, Colorados have been spotted under test at Holden’s Lang Lang proving ground in Australia, indicating the revised version is not far away.

GM Thailand managing director Marcos Purty gave little away with this quote: “This year at the Bangkok International Motor Show, we are unveiling two show vehicles that point to an exciting future direction for Chevrolet in Thailand.

“We are looking forward to sharing this with everyone.”

The annual Bangkok show opens to the press on Tuesday March 22, and then to the public the following day.
