Due to arrive in the first quarter of next year, the H6 Hybrid is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and a 130kW electric motor which together, produce combined system outputs of 179kW/530Nm.
Officially, Haval says its new electrified H6 will sip 5.2 litres of fuel per 100km on the combined cycle, marking a 2.2-litre improvement over the most frugal internal combustion version (7.4L/100km).
For comparison’s sake, a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid’s claimed fuel consumption is 4.7L/100km however the Haval will outmuscle a two-wheel-drive RAV4 by a healthy 19kW.
“Since its introduction in April, the new Haval H6 has been warmly received by Australian new car buyers with segment share reaching an impressive 4.6 per cent in July,” a GWM spokesperson said.
“The addition of Hybrid technology to the H6 line-up is expected to broaden its appeal even further and further cement its place as one of the best new models in the highly competitive medium SUV segment.”
It isn’t known yet which trim levels the new powertrain will be offered in or how much it will cost, however GWM has confirmed the Australian-delivered H6 Hybrids will be built in China as opposed to Thailand where the model has been in production – for that market – since June.
When it does arrive Down Under, the H6 Hybrid will be covered by a seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty and supported by a five-year roadside assist program.
Haval has sold 2217 H6s so far this year ending September 30, accounting for 1.9 per cent of the sub-$60,000 medium SUV segment, however the brand expects its sales share to improve once the Hybrid touches down, even more so if it can secure the swoopy H6S.
