Future models - Chevrolet - SilveradoChevrolet Silverado 2500HD update due soonNew technology and updated appearance for full-size Chevy ute, modest price rise expectedGalleryClick to see larger images 15 Sep 2023 By MATT BROGAN CHEVROLET has updated its Silverado 2500 HD full-size pick-up truck with local showroom deliveries to commence later this year.
Imported and converted locally by General Motors Special Vehicles (GMSV), the heavy-duty Silverado has appeared in ‘pilot’ form this week in anticipation of the model’s showroom arrival.
Pricing and specifications are expected to be announced closer to the vehicle’s local launch with an expected price increase mirroring that of the Silverado 1500, which recently jumped up between $7000 and $9000.
Currently, the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD is priced from $163,000 plus on-road costs.
Changes to the newly facelifted model closely resemble those of the Silverado 1500, and include a new-look frontal treatment, updated interior, and, in its home market, a range of more powerful engines.
From the front, the updated Silverado 2500 HD is characterised by newly styled LED headlights and DRLs, and the adoption of the Chevrolet bow-tie badge in placed of the C-H-E-V-R-O-L-E-T lettering found previously.
A new grille and colour palette is also offered, along with a Midnight Edition package which swaps the model’s chrome garnishing for gloss black. ZR2 variants score lifted suspension, 18-inch alloys, Multimatic adaptive dampers, an electronically locking rear differential, steel skid plates, and Goodyear A/T tyres.
Inside we find a new 13.4-inch infotainment display and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a redesigned centre console with in-built wireless phone charging pad.
The level of driver assistance technologies also grows to include a towing mode as part of the adaptive cruise control system, allowing for increased braking distances and recalibrated blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
Under the ‘hood’, the Silverado 2500 HD is available Stateside with an up-rated version of GM’s Duramax 6.6-litre turbocharged V8 diesel. Power and torque figures are bumped to 350kW and 1322Nm, a rise of 18kW and 12Nm respectively. Chevrolet says the latter is available lower in the rev range from improved grade climbing and towing performance.
The diesel engine is now fitted as standard with the 10-speed automatic transmission previously offered only on the 300kW/630Nm ‘gasoline’ model. Both are available with four-wheel drive.
GMSV has recently finished a 5000km outback evaluation drive of the pilot vehicle and says it is ready to take-on Australia’s gruelling conditions.
Visiting GMSV partner Premoso in Dandenong, Victoria, this week, GMSV vice president and GM International president, Shilpan Amin, said he anticipates a successful sales run for the Silverado 2500 HD.
“The establishment of GM Specialty Vehicles, which was founded in November 2020, is a proven success bringing highly desirable, niche models to customers in Australia and New Zealand,” he said.
“GM ANZ is developing into a true triumph for GM thanks to the focus of the teams working across business units including GM Specialty Vehicles, AC Delco, Chevrolet Racing and Isuzu Trucks NZ.
“I am thrilled to confirm that the new MY24 Chevrolet Silverado HD is scheduled to start arriving in showrooms around Australia later in Q4. Following its impressive debut in North America, I anticipate it’s going to be equally as successful in Australia.”
