Scheduled to launch locally in the fourth quarter of 2026, the Stockman will mark Chery’s entry into Australia’s highly competitive ute market, with a petrol-powered variant set to follow next year.
The headline Diesel Super Hybrid powertrain combines a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with Chery’s plug-in hybrid system and four-wheel drive, providing up to 100km of electric-only driving range under the less stringent NEDC testing standard.
Chery says the system is intended to provide the efficiency and refinement of electric driving without compromising the towing, payload, and off-road capability expected by Australian ute buyers.
Braked towing capacity is rated at 3500kg, while unbraked towing capacity stands at 750kg.
The Stockman uses double-wishbone front suspension and heavy-duty leaf springs at the rear, with at least 247mm of ground clearance and all-terrain tyres fitted as standard.
At 5450mm long, 2010mm wide, and 1890mm high, the Stockman is larger than many established dual-cab rivals and rides on a 3250mm wheelbase.
Its cargo tub measures 1560mm long, 1560mm wide, and 500mm deep, offering a square load area intended to accommodate work equipment and recreational gear, says Chery.
Chery Australia chief operating officer Lucas Harris said the Stockman was designed to satisfy buyers seeking both day-to-day usability and genuine work capability.
“The Stockman represents Chery’s vision for the next generation of dual-cab utes, combining exceptional performance with impressive efficiency and genuine capability,” he said.
“Offering both petrol and diesel plug-in hybrid options allows us to cater for customer demands, be it off-road performance or a more urban focus.
“Ute buyers expect a vehicle that can work hard during the week, tackle weekend adventures and deliver strong value.
“Our Super Hybrid technology is designed to meet those expectations by combining electric driving capability with the power, towing and off-road performance customers demand.”
The Stockman will enter a growing field of electrified utes in Australia, while its diesel plug-in hybrid configuration is expected to provide a point of difference from petrol-electric and battery-electric rivals.
Pricing, payload figures, model grades, and complete Australian specifications will be announced closer to the Stockman’s local launch.
