Future models - BMW - 7 Series - 40 Jahre EditionBMW 7 Series Edition 40 Jahre confirmed for Oz40-year anniversary edition of BMW 7 Series to land in showrooms by year’s endGalleryClick to see larger images 24 Jul 2017 By TUNG NGUYEN BMW will introduce a special-edition version of its 7 Series at this year’s Frankfurt motor show to commemorate four decades of the flagship luxury limo, with some examples of the Edition 40 Jahre already earmarked to land in Australia before year’s end. Speaking to GoAuto, BMW Australia product communications manager Adam Davis confirmed the ultra-exclusive Edition 40 Jahre would touch down in in late 2017, saying “we are going to see some here by the end of the year”. Limited to a production run of just 200 units, the 40 Jahre – German for ‘year’ – is available in either six-, eight- or twelve-cylinder guises, all with bespoke interior and exterior flourishes, but Mr Davis could not confirm how many would be made available to Australian customers. “In terms of actual allocation, we don’t know yet,” he said. “It’s spread pretty thin, so you’ve got 200 units globally and anyone around the world can order, whether it’s a 730d to an xDrive 750Li. “It’s a pretty extensive package given the limited numbers, but for sure the cars commence production in October so I think it would be a pretty cool Christmas present to turn up and have a nice new 7 Series anniversary.” From the outside, the BMW’s latest flagship sedan is finished in either Frozen Silver metallic or Petrol Mica metallic and is also fitted with an M Aerodynamics Package, 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels, high-gloss Shadow Line trim highlights and exclusive badging on the B-pillars and door sills. BMW has adorned the inside of the Edition 40 Jahre with a full leather interior available in Smoke White with Cohiba or black highlights matched to a white Alcantara headliner and either black or wood trim strip finish. Front passengers are also treated to exclusive Edition 40 Jahre badging above the glovebox, with the same signet also found on the floor mats and all four headrests. Standard equipment in the 40 Edition Jahre mirrors its unlimited production siblings, including front and rear air suspension, 12.3-inch i-Drive infotainment system with gesture controls, head-up display and a 7.0-inch tablet controller for rear occupants. Engine outputs remain static when compared with the standard 7 Series range, with the 730d pumping out 195kW/620Nm from a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel six, the 740i making 240kW/450Nm from a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol six, the 750i utilising a 330kW/650Nm 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 and the range-topping M760Li featuring a 448kW/800Nm 6.6-litre force-fed V12. Although pricing of the Edition 40 Jahre is yet to be revealed, expect the limited-edition model to fetch a price premium over the regular 7 Series line-up, which kicks off at $222,100 before on-roads for the entry-level 730d and up to $425,000 for the M760Li xDrive.
