Future models - Bentley - Continental - GT V8 SFrankfurt show: Bentley boosts GT V8 powerBentley unveils more powerful Continental GT V8 S model at Frankfurt show10 Sep 2013 BENTLEY has pumped even more power into its V8-powered Continental GT. The British marque has ripped the covers off the new S-model at the Frankfurt motor show. Available in both coupe and convertible bodystyles, the GT V8 S is powered by an uprated version of the twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 petrol unit from the regular GT V8. Power increases by 16kW to 389kW, while torque is up by 20Nm to 680Nm. The increase in power and torque still shadows the massive 6.0-litre W12-powered version of the Continental GT that pumps out 423kW/700Nm in its standard guise. The boost in power has improved the straight-line performance, with the coupe capable of a 0-100km/h sprint in 4.5 seconds, while the drop-top covers the same distance in 4.7 seconds. This makes the V8 S model 0.3 second quicker than the standard V8, in coupe and convertible guise. While the Volkswagen-owned marque has not released official fuel use figures, it said in a statement the increased performance hasn't affected the vehicle's ability to cover around 800km on a single tank. Bentley has tweaked the GT's suspension set up for a sportier ride. Ride height is decreased by 10mm, while the anti-roll bar, bushes and spring rates have all firmed up. It is also available with an optional sports exhaust. Bentley says the recalibrated steering, stability control and damping make for “an exhilarating and involving driving experience”. Subtle styling cues, such as an aerodynamic front splitter, side sills and rear diffuser all in gloss black, exclusive 20-inch wheels and 'V8 S' badging on the fender differentiate the new model from the standard version. The V8 S branding continues on the sill tread plate, while the cabin gains a unique centre stripe on the hide-trimmed roof lining that is matched to the colour of the main upholstery. Chrome detailing features on the gearshift lever and air-vent controllers, and buyers can choose their two-tone interior from a range of 17 different hide colours. Bentley Motors chairman and chief executive Wolfgang Schreiber the more powerful GT V8 variants would increase the appeal of the Continental range. “The increased power and torque combined with dynamically-focussed suspension sharpen the performance capabilities of our V8 grand tourers with no compromise to the luxury and quality that all Bentleys typify,” he said. “These are cars with huge character and agility, enhanced even further by a distinctive V8 soundtrack.” The GT V8 S is set to go on sale in Europe in early 2014, and will arrive in Australia sometime after then. European pricing is yet to be announced but it is expected to carry a premium over regular GT V8 variants that retail in Australia for $370,000 for the coupe and $407,000 for the convertible.
