Road TestCar reviews - Volvo - V40 - 1.8 5-dr wagonVolvo modelsOverviewThe V40 is the wagon version of the first S40 - the 'V' stands for versatility5 Jul 2001 VOLVO'S pre-GST price re-alignment policy is nowhere more eloquently expressed than with its new 1.8-litre S40 and V40 series. The new "little" Volvo comes in at the $40,000 mark with no differentiation between station wagon and sedan prices. For the money, the Volvo doesn't ask for any real sacrifices except the less powerful engine. The announcement of the 1.8-litre Volvos also coincides with a mini update that has finally given the car a half-decent suspension. The V40 is pretty cheap for a Volvo. But is it cheap for a medium-size station wagon?
