Super TestCar reviews - Volkswagen - Caddy - Maxi Life people-mover rangeVolkswagen modelsOverviewCaddy Life makes way for Caddy Maxi Life as VW renews its affordable people-mover11 Dec 2008 THERE are not many new ways to appeal to a people-mover buyer that haven’t already been tried but one that Volkswagen hopes might do the trick is a Euro badge, seating for seven adults, a large cargo area - and all at a value price. Despite the Volkswagen Caddy Maxi Life having a very strong commercial flavour (it is effectively a Caddy Maxi an with extra seats, windows and trim) a large Volkswagen roundel sitting up front and the capacity to seat seven and their luggage inside - all for $35,000 - might be persuasive enough to get more families on board than Volkswagen managed to with its predecessor, the Caddy Life. The Caddy Life was - like its big brother the Caravelle - strongly based on the commercial version of the same vehicle, the Caddy. It was available with two engines - a 75kW 1.6-litre petrol four-cylinder linked to a five-speed manual or a 77kW turbo-diesel four-cylinder hooked up to a five-speed manual or optional DSG automated manual. The Caddy Life 1.6 cost $27,990 while the Caddy Life TDI manual was $31,990 (the DSG adding $2000). |
